The online backup service provided by Backblaze is very simple to understand and utilize. It is not complicated to restore your data from any point in time to the previous status. It has been designed with simplicity and ease of usage in mind. The unique feature that makes Backblaze B2 vs. AWS S3 such a good option for online backup is that Backblaze B2 stores all your data in its virtual cloud. This is done through a unique service provision method that allows you to store your data on the Backblaze cloud. You are then able to access this data from any computer with an internet connection.
How it Works:
The way Data Backup and Cloud Storage work is like this. The user logs into the Backblaze B2 website and chooses a password and ID. Once the user has logged in to the website, he/she will be able to access their stored data. The user can then either Backup to the cloud or store data in the Backblaze virtual server. Once the data is backed up in the virtual server, the owner of that data can then access their data from any computer with an internet connection. The virtual server is separated from the host, so the user does not have to worry about issues like connectivity and system issues.
Two methods of backing Up Data:
Most online data backup services offer two methods of backing up data.
- The first method is known as the ingest process. With this method, the data is copied to the consumer’s local hard drive. The data is then converted to a text file. After this process, the data is deleted from the consumer’s hard drive.
- The second method is known as the ingest combined method. With this method, your data is backed up in two separate places. The first place backs up the data to the Amazon main server. The second-place backs up the data to S3. In this case, the data loss may occur due to Amazon’s fault or to a third party. However, it is recommended that you use an additional security strategy.
Backup Data from Multiple Places:
In some cases, it is necessary to use both of these methods. If you use a lot of data or if you have a large amount of data loss, it may be necessary to backup all data across multiple places. By default, Backblaze provides three different levels of backup. You can choose to use the default, which will backup everything, create a copy for S3, or use custom settings to back up S3 only.
To restore your data after a disaster, Backblaze offers two different ways to restore your data. The first way is called the discretionary restore. With this method, you can select which data files will be restored.
The other method is known as the mandatory restore. With this method, you are not allowed to select which data files will be restored. Instead, all data is backed up at once. You should, however, use a different Cloud Storage account than you use for Backblaze backups. Backblaze performs the checks to determine whether you’re already using an account and therefore doesn’t allow you to restore to an old one.
